I remember initial critical reception to Star Wars in 1977 was mixed
But it was a wee bit successful at the box office anyway.
I’m not saying MK2 2026 is Star Wars 1977, but there’s nothing new about there being a divergence between critics’ review scores and audiences speaking with their wallets.
That’s where the late famed movie critic Roger Ebert excelled: He was a serious movie critic who also knew when to have fun watching a movie.
I don’t know the critic ratings, but the Fast and Furious movies have been entertaining for years while being ridiculous schlock, with familia as the requisite teaspoon of depth to get investment.
Hell, I used to love watching Uwe Boll movies with friends because, man, no one can elicit a career-worst performance out of Academy Award winners like Uwe Boll.
Fun to watch definitely doesn’t mean critically good.
Critics don’t understand fun.
With everything that is just naturally on the table with MK2, the bar for it being an enjoyable movie is so low that it can’t fail to be fun.
There are lots of movies that aim to be fun, but arent. Its different to being serious or profound or unique or funny, but ita also not easy. The bar is not that low that any effor succeeds.
The misspelling underlines your point, NGL.
Undermined
Maybe both.
Undetermined too then
Uh… “Effort” ☝🏼😅
Underlines, ironically. The bar isn’t so low that everything succeeds, eh? 🤌🏼
Huh, super glad the ONLY Mortal Kombat 2 film is popular with audiences.
