Last week’s Federal Court decision should reassure us that Australia won’t import the kind of anti-trans rhetoric we see overseas — but will continue to be a country where all women enjoy equality before the law.

    Damages were doubled from $10,000 to $20,000 — including $8,000 for aggravated damages because of the way Grover conducted their case: misgendering Tickle and laughing in the witness stand when shown a demeaning caricature of Tickle…

    The little details matter in cases like this, given the increasing normalization of disrespect against trans people. Not only is the court acknowledging that trans women are legally women; The court is also recognizing that misgendering a trans person is deliberate harm.

    Completely unrelated note; “Giggle v Tickle” is a really funny court case name.
