We don’t have any updates on WebUSB right now - that spec is more complicated and we have some additional security concerns.
Is the security a big deal? GraphineOS, which marks security as their number one concern, has a first-class web installer that uses it.
If there was any chance that this method was being secure, surely they would be the first ones to criticize it, no?
I read a long time ago that there weren’t happy with the original proposals for webusb and webhid. I’m not sure if it was revisited since then.
sort of a shame because I have to keep something like ungoogled chromium installed to interact with certain peripherals using the Via web app and similar, or even the GrapheneOS installer.
Would love for them to revisit the spec and address the concerns they had with it for their own implementation.
