The La Pine City Council voted unanimously to stop moving forward with a proposed data center after strong opposition from residents. Community members packed the meeting, raising concerns about water, energy use, noise and economic benefits.
Many residents raised concerns about energy use, water, noise and whether the project would really benefit the community. City leaders also questioned discrepancies in projected revenue, energy costs and the number of permanent jobs the data center would create.
