Hey everyone, any recommendations for ways to get music for your game? I would prefer not to use AI. I want to either pay a musician or get free music made by a real person. I tried making my own music for a bit and I felt totally out of my depth.

I mean you answered your own question my dude. Pay an artist or take the time to learn q new skill and do it yourself. The former is the quickest and there’s plenty of artists out there looking for work, latter might give you the ability to put some more of yourself into that game, and learning how to make music is a skill you can hold onto forever.

I’m looking for a more specific recommendation. Like where would I find musicians to hire for this? Is there a repository of free music that I could use for games?

I thought I would take note of the indie games with songs I liked and check the credits and contact them.

I’ve also seen artists on Bandcamp that do game music.

You could hire someone off of Fiverr, just make sure you read their descriptions and make sure they actually do what you’re asking for, then reach out to them about specifics before payment. I kinda got burned on this once, I accidentally hired a light-rock/alternative drummer to do a hardcore song and the results weren’t great.
