Maybe if the blinds are on the outside of the window, but IME that’s not the norm north of the alps. And you can’t blind+fan your way out of 40°C heatwaves, the nights get warm too and then you can’t properly cool down your place at night anymore.
My blinds are on the inside. Reflective material cut to the size of the panes. We put a frozen 2l water bottle in front of the fan, and the nights have been pretty fine during the heatwave.
It was a long sheet (10m) of shiny metallic on one side and deep black on the other. I used sticky double sided velcro to cover the windows and it works a treat… if you keep them on all day. We use them in the bedrooms and it’s noticeably cooler.

What kind of reflective material do you use? My blinds use reflective material and it does jack shit.
