How do you write anything long-form on a tablet? You seem to live a different life than me, if you find laptops redundant.

I’ve tried that. For me, it’s also about the app ecosystem and the way multitasking is implemented. But also, perching a Bluetooth keyboard on my lap while the tablet was up on top of something else just separated things in a way I couldn’t reconcile in my mind.

I would only really get a linux tablet, I’m with you on that, I plan to use a metal lapdesk with a charachorder and magnets which will mitigate the exact issues you’re talking about while also letting me take a tablet on my flights so less bulk. Gotta get a bit creative if you’re doing it that way but it is doable.

The heat from use damages integrated parts equally. Laptops and phones are disposable and shouldn’t waste on modularity because when one part goes, typically the rest follow. Modularity adds bulk weight and can interfere with cooling. A lot of those modules can be replaced by cheaper, and more convenient specialty cables.
