    Nobody takes light pollution seriously but it’s as serious as a heart attack.

    And I’m not saying we should shut off all the streetlights either. Although rigging them to motion sensors would be cool. Just that we should pretty please use full cutoff fixtures, ban uplights, and for the love of God use 3000k or warmer. 6000k for dusk-dawn lighting is insane especially in residential areas.

    The death spiral is real. The reason moths (and all other flying insects) are attracted to lämps is because they use light for navigation. Often it’s not just nocturnal insects, but insects that think it’s daytime because of the light. So they will fly in circles under the lämp until they starve to death because they think they’re heading towards food.

    It’s thought this is actually the main reason for the collapse of insect populations across the planet, coupled with excessive insecticide use in agriculture. We’ve created an incredibly dangerous habitat for almost every species onmthe planet.

    A moth got into our apartment and flew into my fiance’s eye the other day. These fucking things are dumb as dirt lol
