    I don’t understand the haters.

One or two bites isn’t going to hurt them.

One of my cats loves cheese. But it has to be sharp, stinky cheese. I know it’s not good for him, but a tiny little piece every few weeks isn’t going to hurt.

      No hatred at all.

House cats are surprisingly delicate and surprisingly stupid little critters and it’s our job as their designated thinking monkeys to properly take care of them, and that includes keeping their dietary needs in mind. Plants that are delicious to us humans are poisonous to house cats. Look at that cute little face and think about how much dying of kidney failure hurts as you’re designing treats for your furry little buddy.

Sorry there, fellow asshole, but you sound like you could use a good patronizing.

Look. I am the asshole here. My post history will confirm, I am a very bad, very hateful person. And the issue you’ve picked with me is that I said “Let’s feed our kitty cats healthy treats.”

How about we reach between our ass cheeks and unbuch our panties, eh?

Not even hating. Literally only gave my male cat two bites of perschuto and he got a bladder blockage.

Was painful, he almost died, and it costed 6 grand. We didn’t have pet insurance then so that was a lesson I did not forget.

I seen my cat in intense pain and almost die, I am almost slightly offended you would call me a hater for trying to warn another person of what could happen. If anyone doesnt know yes over salty foods and fatty foods are bad for cats, especially male cats. You can call someone a hater for sounding passionate but I think you should understand where that passion comes from, and its a one of concern. Its not someone telling you what to do, it’s someone warning you.

Ok. Your experience is valid. But you have to admit that what happened to your cat was an uncommon scenario and it is flat out just not going to happen like that a majority of the time. The person you responded to was not calling you out directly for speaking on your experience.

Its more common than I thought. The vet said it effects 1/10 male cats, and more and more it seems to be a issue these days. Our vet says its the cat food everyone gets these days doesnt help.

And I know the person wasn’t calling me out directly, I didn’t make a single comment until I read that one and decided to reply. I was more pointing out how this does happen and I would say is something to be concerned about, and how I see that same concern in a few other comments. Those are warnings of experience, and I wouldnt of known that if I haven’t gone through the same thing.

Listen man I just don’t want someone to feel like I did. We had to drive 2 hours at mid night to the nearest emergency vet and they had to keep him there for two days. I had to do sidejobs every weekend to pay off the bill. Thankfully they didn’t start charging interest until maybe a year after and we got it payed off before that no problem.

What makes it worse is cats dont show pain. My wife did not seemed concerned what so ever that he wouldnt get out of bed for the whole day, and was really dismissive when I pointed out he acts like he doesnt want to sit down or lay down. It wasn’t until I googled the symptoms said its deadly before she decided maybe it was serious. I just dont think most people “get” cats, or are expecting them to communicate to you like a dog.

You know another big thing I learned that a lot of people probably don’t know is that a lot of cats just like flat out…don’t drink water for some reason? Most of us are used to any given animal drinking water when thirsty. But a lot of cats just like… don’t. I guess a wet food diet helps a lot with this because it’s got water in it. Sure it’s a little bit more hassle and expense over dry food, but not that much. Def gonna keep my guy on wet food for the rest of his life.

So us humans often make the mistake of feeding our cats water right next to their food bowls. Cats don’t like that; because carnivore, they don’t trust water sources near where they eat as rotting animal carcasses can poison water.

They also prefer moving water to a stagnant puddle, so fountains or running faucets are often preferred to bowls.

My cat Izzy wants to drink from the bathtub faucet, I turn it on for her a couple times a day.

your cat had 2 grams of a meat product that is 6% salt by weight and that is the only cause of the blockage? a perfectly healthy fully grown cat with no pre-existing conditions? the vet specifically told you “the only cause of this bladder blockage is the milligrams of sodium contained in two house cat mouth sized bites of prosciutto”?

We dont fully know what cause the blockage, it could be litter, stress, food, etc.

The vet never told us specifically what could of caused it because she had no way to know. We assumed it was the meat snacks we gave him because that was one of the few variables that made sense to us that the vet listed. Could of even been the food brands we where feeding him at the time, could be the dusty litter.

Regardless we didn’t risk any variable and changed to his prescription diet, the litter, and the works and we havent had a issue sense. I still think it was the meat but honestly could of been the liter, or various other things. Certainly not going to start testing to prove my hypothesis.

Also he’s 5-6 years old with 4 of those years with us. From those years before the bladder blockage yeah I would say he was a normal healthy cat with no issues before that. Most of the time you don’t get a cat with preexisting conditions, you just end up with a cat and you presume its healthy until proven otherwise. He could of had this before but it took a long time for the issue to surface.

The cat my family had growing up loved cheese so much that we’d jingle our metal cheese slicer to draw him out whenever we couldn’t find him. He lived to be 16. He probably ate an entire pound of cheese every year from all the scraps my sister would give him.

Wasn’t there a french cartoon with some black cat that likes stinky cheese and grants people the magic superpower of destroying anything they touch?

My man’s, are talking about pepe le’pew? His green stink would wilt plants and stuff, but I don’t think he passed along that power.
