Super hero movies are America’s attempt at preserving its own sense of being noble by encoding it in sagas, sublimating what Hollywood can’t say: That the bad people should be killed in a big fight, and the good people should win and save us all.

If said more directly Hollywood would be advocating violence against some very powerful people.

When America needs help, they turn to the fictional world of super heros.

I’m not surprised to see you downvoted, it’s a good point and might make you think about the way things are if the realization wasn’t so painful.

I’ve been thinking about Happy Hero again lately and it’s kind of about that kind of thing.

Man, I had such high hopes for James Gunn taking over DC Studios.

Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 1 were the only decent things to come out of it.

    Superman was mid.

    Supergirl was astonishingly bad.

    I couldn’t even finish Peacemaker season 2.

The leaks around Lanterns have erased all of my anticipation.

And now he’s bringing back Blue Beetle from the DCEU?

    JFC.

Gawd I need to see Supergirl. Everytime someone says it’s bad, it’s accompanied by other takes that convince me I’ll at least like it and be entertained.

You will like Supergirl and be entertained. But it also is a mid film.

Honestly the bummer of Supergirl is that you can see a better film is almost there. It has the bones of a great film, but it just doesn’t quite have the meat.

People like to dunk on Gunn for calling the script amazing, and then see the film and wonder what he’s thinking, and I get it. But cut the wrong scenes from the script or film them wrong and yeah, you get a film that just doesn’t quite work.

Don’t get me wrong I have issues with the story, but you could probably convince me otherwise if you tell a slightly different story.

Supergirl is great, it’s a fun goofy over the top don’t think about it movie. Ya know your average superhero show. It’s not perfect, there are some plot holes for sure, but not everything has to be deep. Just a girl and her dog goofing off. The hate is so forced.

Ummm…why? This feels like Disney trying so hard to make people like Rey? No one likes her, Disney…just stop.
