Pretty hilarious thread of the usual wacko banning people while admitting that they allowed the same behavior for kissinger. Many people point out the arbitrary, subjective nature. Many people banned. Thread locked.

Yeah so consistent. He admitted that he temporally suspended the rule for Kissinger. He is very dogmatic too

Reminder, this is the feddi. If the rule is that egridious, you can create your own community.

I hate this argument a lot. Yeah you can use other communities because of the decentralization. It still doesn’t solve the network effect, most people keep posting on the biggest communities. I think big communities should have a voting systems to replace mods or keep them every year. I also have my own community so I am not just a complainer

They openly made an exception one time. That doesn’t seem very inconsistent. I agree that if you’re going to have rules and if those rules are supposed to be important. You shouldn’t be making it exceptions to them. It weakens them. But a lot of other people outside Kissinger have died. And there haven’t been any more exceptions that I’m aware of. I’m also not claiming total awareness either. If there are others point them out. That’s valid criticism.

Hate the argument all you want. Network effect is just an excuse not to try. That world news community wasn’t the first was it? Didn’t it face the network effect itself? I 100% use smaller communities in a number of instances to combat such effects. And I’m far from the only one.

Like I said I am trying and many other does it . It still a fact network effects exists and people gravitate to the biggest communities even if they don’t like the mod . I believe the lemmy.world worldnews is the second created worldnews community after the ml one which is managed by pro russia mods

Remind me again why we are down voting each other? We seem to be having a pretty reasonable conversation overall I think.

I’ve certainly never denied the existence of the network effect. Look for yourself you won’t find it. But it’s not just the network effect. I think plenty of people generally prefer not to have things generally give way into celebration of death and general hate parties. Especially when it comes to larger communities. It’s probably a general bonus not to have it for them. To be frank I’m not really aware of many larger communities that don’t have that at least as a unspoken if not enumerated rule. And honestly for myself that’s fine. I have no shortage of places I can go to do that sort of thing if I want to on the fediverse. Though ironically for that very reason many of them are fairly small.

I’m not saying Lund is perfect by any stretch. I don’t think any of us are. That this is getting a bit of a ridiculous dead horse to keep beating. That’s a completely different issue. Also with respect to the network effect. With Lemmy 1.0 looking to have crosspost grouping/consolidation IIRC. The network effect is about to get a lot weaker regardless.
