For whatever reason, when I was in middleschool, around 2002, they taught us how to read political cartoons. To ask the question, who is this for? Why do you think this image was made? What is the message the artist is trying to convey?
It was an important lesson, and I can see why now. It was a lesson in critical thinking, but also, an introduction into understanding political discourse.
More personaly, cartoons like this, have two objectives for me, to make one think, and/or to express solidarity. “Other people see what I see, this cartoon expresses what Ive been feeling” Or simply to collectively laugh at the absurdity of …well everything.
They can make a difference this way. If a magat or fence sitter saw this, perhaps it would make them think. Maybe theyd think or feel something they didnt see before. Maybe it would just make them so mad thier head actually explodes with brain bits flying everywhere.
Art, whether it is a classical masterpiece, or someones goofy cartoon or doodle, all have purpose. Purpose to convey the image and possibly its direct message to others. Art stirs emotion, stirs the mind, in whatever big or small way; it can be release of emotion or thought for the artist, and there are so many ways to interpret it.
Anyway, I see shit like this and know we are not alone. That is enough reason for me to say this has value.
