Depends on the execution. I love seeing apparently disparate threads in solo stories start to come together to form the fabric of a really solid crossover. Infinity War / Endgame did an okay job. A little rickety in places, but it held together…

I’m very dubious about this one, though. It’s not inconceivable they’ll pull it off, but at the moment it just feel like someone emptied all their action figure sets into one bucket.

I’m guessing this will be the last word on the Fox X-Men, so I hope they at least pull off a reasonable farewell there.

I mean this movie is a crossover movie. That being said I’m confident they’ll explain who everyone is and what’s going on during the film.

Look at Infinity War. Hulk returns to Earth and everyone is surprised he is back. Do you need to have seen Age of Ultron or Thor Ragnarok? No. Hulk was gone, now he’s back. The Avengers broke up. Did you need to see Civil War? No. The film shows bad blood between Cap and Tony.

Plus look at a film like Shang-Chi, apart from a little connective post credits it’s stand alone. Sure Wong and Abomination show up, but you don’t need to know anything about them other than what happens in the movie.

But if you really want stand alone, look at animation. DC puts out at least a film a year, either completely standalone or “technically” in the same universe but it never comes up.

I mean not just stand alone but like avengers that are just the avengers. Why does every single hero on the planet have to make an appearance.
