You can’t even buy a car that doesn’t come with the built-in equivalent of a stalker’s tracking device anymore.

It is allowed to sell a washing machine that won’t last more than 5 years before breaking without possibility of repair.

It is increasingly difficult to buy a TV that won’t spy on you and inject ads.

It is tolerated to sell a peripheral that installs malware on your computer without your authorization.

It is allowed to sell a product that must be always connected to the internet for no good reason and to remotely disable or severely reduce its functionality after it was purchased unless you pay a subscription fee that was not clearly mentioned at the time of the purchase.

It is allowed to sell products that are completely locked-in that you cannot have reasonable control over and that are specifically designed so you can’t even repair them.

It is allowed to gain control of the majority of a market and dictate higher prices and anti consumer practices.

It is allowed for a private entity to gather data on people en masse to a level of intrusiveness that only 30 years ago would have required a warrant from a judge for law enforcement to do on a case by case basis.

And THIS is what they’ve decided they should spend their time regulating? Most of those companies don’t even pay taxes in the country. I so fucking hate that our government has so blatantly turned towards serving lobbyist interests instead of the People’s.
