    A suggestion - plug it into a USB SATA adapter/enclosure and check it with ValiDrive: https://www.grc.com/validrive.htm

    (unless you’re just going to return it without opening the ESD bag)

      Why though? On the hope it’s an actual WD? But what purpose would that serve as most likely something has been messed with to make it cheaper. Or maybe from the same WD manufacturing line?

        Curiosity, mostly. And yes, it could be a “factory second” labeled for local sale.

        A SMART report would be interesting too. Perhaps it’s a relabeled old drive.

    may be a fake, may be a refurb that was relabeled and they don’t speak the language so they didn’t know the difference and sold it as new claiming that it is a China Only version.

        there are programs to check if the capacity is real. these are usually made to identify faked usb flash drives but it can probably be used here too
