Speaking as a vegan who has gotten legitimately emotional before because I love lobsters as creatures and they deserve better: who the fuck thought this was a good idea. Who thought this was going to tug at heartstrings instead of loins. Who thought this was going to unlock compassion instead of new fetishes. Who thought people weren’t going to want to fuck the lobster.
Like I hate to say it mate but have you hung around any vegan spaces on the Internet? This kind of shit is honestly not that far off brand. It feels like every week there’s some new insane thing like trying to make captive, domesticated pets vegan, or deciding they don’t actually like bees, or unironically cheering on alpha gal syndrome.
Yeah, there are saner ways to make the case for veganism. Like, for example, the planet being on fire because of post-war government bailouts for beef and dairy conglomerates scamming an entire generation into thinking that milk was mandatory.
Their marketing campaign is literally to get attention and it works better than anything else to drive funding for animal rights. If they aren’t around people would literally forget animals get abused. They win by making you all argue. I’m not sure how you ever fix that.
You raise an interesting point. I tend to think of campaigns like this as kind of worthless because they don’t feel like they’re going to persuade anyone vs. ads that I would personally consider more persuasive, but you’re not wrong that this sort of thing is getting a million more views on the internet than something that might be more individually persuasive but only reach like 20 people. I guess that’s why they do it.
PETA forces people to become vegan from the start, and if someone doesn’t want to, they make it impossible for them to live. Their mentality is like a cult, and a lot of vegan supporters are only in it for attention.

PETA’s marketing campaigns fucking baffle me.

Okay but what is the point if they’re gonna blow the money on more baffling marketing campaigns?
Based on a PETA video I saw by someone I watch, PETA literally kills dogs (like wayyyy more dogs than normal animal shelters do)

Wasn’t this debunked before? Like, the numbers are correct but there are valid reasons for it?
