I enjoy some of his work, but the guy himself is always just being an asshole to somebody, and not in like a fun Blackadder way. It’s just mean and unpleasant.
I remember watching a scene by scene comparison between the UK and US versions of the Office.
The US version felt a lot more lighthearted, like everyone was having a bit of a laugh, but it was all in good fun. The UK version was almost painful to watch, it really felt like watching workplace bullying.
And Gervais was a big part of that, every scene he was in just wasn’t funny to watch.
There were some excellent actors and comedians in the UK Office. Unfortunately, Ricky Jervais seems to have been under the mistaken impression that that includes him.
Ricky Gervais needs to find this Guy for a new season of An Idiot Abroad.

Mostly that he’s a transphobe, he’s also one of those tedious “free speech absolutists”, and I’ve personally always just found him annoying
