Yeah. Raw onions are just about the only food ingredient I absolutely can’t stand to eat. But I love sauteed onions. I work at a fire house and do a lot of the cooking on shift. If anyone bitches about a lack of onions, I tell them I’ll add onions at the same time I add Habaneros. I love crazy hot stuff, but contrary to popular firefighter belief, most of the guys are huge weenies when it comes to spicy.

Same actually. But I later discovered the reason why I don’t like raw onions is because I have an allergy that gives me migraines when I eat them. Cooking them is fine and delicious though.

But yeah, used to be teased incessantly by family for being “Picky.”

You probably know this since you work in a kitchen, but a buddy recently taught me that the trick for taking the edge off raw onion—e.g. to put on a salad or burger—is to soak the slices in cold water for a few minutes. Keeps the sweetness and flavor, but seriously reduces the sulfuric burn!

        Nope. Had no idea.

I’m a firefighter. So I only sort of work in a kitchen. Whenever I’m the one making dinner for us all.

Lmao I’m sorry, the caffeine was hitting and my reading comprehension failed me — I saw “fire house” and interpreted that as the sub shop.

Thank you for your very important public service and for keeping your crew fed!

In my mind, you’re the one in charge of doing the “cooking” tasks at a fast food place, you’re probably well within your right lmao

Why do I keep seeing removed instead of some words? If anyone removed about a pack of onions?

Anyone know where the banned word list is? I am having trouble finding it on my phone.

True. I’m a doofus. I meant I have a hard time finding it because my mobile browser interface simplifies the site. Oh well, time to actually put pants on to solve this problem.

              It’s like the Dark Ages.

I’m saying that the word list is probably specified by the instance admins in the settings of the instance server, and isn’t accessible to users. Lemmy.ml is known to be rather opinionated. However, I’m not familiar with the settings of a Lemmy server firsthand, so can’t say for sure.

I used to be that way. I think you’ll eventually find that you like them. Not enough to take a bite out of a raw onion but being cool with them on a burger at least. Sometimes stuff like this just clicks for me as I get older. No idea why lol.

Odds aren’t that high at this point. I’m not all wrinkly, but I’m old enough to remember the before times, when the Internet didn’t exist.

No, that’s not how that works. Your own personal experience is fine and valid, but try not to make the assumption it’s true for anyone else.
