Just ban the sale of gun parts in California.

Obviously they didn’t ask how ghost guns were made, but absolutely no one on the streets of Cali is using something like an FGC-9, they’re printing Glocks and AR-15 bodies and then filling it with completely legal parts (I think they’re legal. Not sure. Not in Cali)

Anyways, glad they are required to release guidelines for a detection algorithm at least, but its bullshit they can make these requirements WITHOUT a proof of concept at least!

Just ban the sale of gun parts in California.

Gun parts are things like ‘spring’, ‘metal tube’, ‘wood’, and ‘pin’. Good luck with this ban. If you go through with it, half the stores in the state will be gone, every tradesman will be gone, and almost every product will be gone as they contain gun parts.

Guns have been around for hundreds of years, and it is because they are pretty damn simple. ‘Just ban the sale of gun parts’ is a complete non-starter.

No, gun parts are “Glock Upper receiver” and “AR-15 Bolt Carrier group”

These are precision machined pieces that fit within such tight tolerances that fucking it up is how you blow up your hand.

3D printed guns work because you can 3D print lower receivers because it doesn’t actually do anything with containing an explosion.

It relies on off the shelf parts of guns being available.

Now could they be printing a fully DIY gun like a “Fuck Gun Control 9MM” aka an FGC-9 and build it out of tube, spring, wood. Yeah, sure.

But that IS NOT the majority of ghost guns and those are such terrible guns that their intended use is as a modern Liberator: a gun you use to kill someone with a better gun and take that gun.

Using a FGC-9 in California gang violence is how one gets shot by a flock with a switch. Aka, a better gun.

Source: I live in a state where its completely legal to build my own guns.

“Firearms precursor parts” are meant to be only sold at licensed dealers in California, but I’ll let you guess how simple it is to sell something that isn’t on the list of “precursor parts”.

Also, you’re supposed to register any weapon manufactured yourself in the state.

This is hilarious! The crooks running around with 3D printed toy weapons… The handles break during each of the single possible shot before the thing disintegrates but no worries! The crooks are carrying the most dangerous thing in the arsenal!

And Amazon is allowed to sell it without any licensing or anything! For $59 bucks! Is that what my life is worth?

You wrong as hell lmao. Gone are the days of Cody Wilson’s proof-of-concept The Liberator, people are printing chairmanwon glock lowers, FGC2.0s, 3011s, Hoffman AR lowers, etc, they’ve even got full ass CETME lowers now.

They have metal parts you can get without a background check, yes, but you can print the regulated part and they last a good couple thousand rounds. Not as sturdy as injection molded polymer but good enough to get “the job” done unless you’re like, deployed to Fallujah.

And also: they’ll never be able to stop it. This won’t work.

Ok I’m wrong. But you could make those parts on a CNC machine. A cheap CNC could make aluminum parts that last for the life of the weapon.

Stretch that… Have you ever seen a bad guy coming the the scene without shoes? Ban shoes! Its not even a right like the 2nd amendment. Ban shoes… But not all shoes, I’m not crazy. Ban light weight durable toe protecting running shoes. Everyone knows criminals don’t come to crime scenes wearing ballarina shoes. You can’t run very fast if you wear casual hard sole shoes or heal shoes either.

In other words, nobody is printing anything that is so critical to the weapons that couldn’t be done in a different way.

Yes, and they sell small home CNC machines literally designed and branded for exactly that, for like $3,000. You can also make a full auto Luty SMG from parts at the hardware store and you can now do ECM rifling at home with a 3d printed jig. You can make a suppressor for it too out of a tube and some easily made baffles. Many things can be done.

Criminals also all drink Dihydrogen Monoxide, bandhmo.org.
