Most status LEDs are using ~0.05watts of power if not less, so 0.0012kWh per day (~0.26grams of sugar) is already more then efficient enough for a larger plant. Even with that bioluminescence is wildly more efficient then any LED since its basically the byproduct of a chemical reaction (like heat emission from our body’s while digesting)
This research slightly predates the above article but they touch on the fact the biggest barrier to bioluminescent plants is that plants tend to absorb the emitted light which could be solved by getting them to emit green light (and look at what color this current article has the plant emitting! Kinda cool to see scientists theorys theory put into practice)
