cw: this might destroy quite a few illusions
after thinking about it for a long time, i cannot identify as a kitty cat, because i cannot accept meat to be my natural primary source of calories. oh how cruel it is to depend on killing others just to sustain yourself.
i do agree with the naps though. :3

Yes but they can still taste the food. Meat substitutes are something that some humans choose to eat for ethical reasons, but they aren’t good, they’re good enough to stand in for meat when we are out of by the meat industry.
Again if you want a house pet that doesn’t eat meat and doesn’t hunt, torture and kill other animals for fun, there are other options. Bunnies, chinchillas, guinea pigs, rats, mice, parrots, budgies, pot belly pigs, etc will all be happy to eat vegan food (or if you’re hung up on the Idea of having a cat, get a cat girl). Don’t try to force cats to eat vegan food.
We are omnivores and can eat pretty much anything from grass seeds to whales to a fucking Cessna 150. Cats aren’t like that. They’ve evolved to depend on meat as their sole source of nutrition. Their sense of taste is also evolved to love meat. They can’t really taste much else. If you’re forcing your cat to choke down mycoprotein and soy beans to stay alive, you are a bad person.
How would you feel if someone abducted you, and forced you to eat kiviak to stay alive and stopped you from going out to feed yourself?
To reiterate: There’s nothing magically special about meat that would be impossible to recreate via other means. That also includes the taste. I don’t claim that something like this exists currently. I don’t own a cat and probably never will. My understanding is that the vast majority of cat food is already quite far from the look and feel of the actual meat that goes into it. I’m just saying that I don’t see a problem why artificial meat couldn’t be improved to meet the same standard.
The majority of cat food is very far from the meat that goes into it which is why you don’t buy the shitty stuff. But some of it actually smells (and I assume tastes) like meat.
I was actually tempted to eat this one. It smells pretty good.
