But wait, there’s more!
There’s about 4 different routes I can take to get to work with roughly a 2 minute travel time difference between them.
Every route has road construction on it right now, with my usual route being completely closed.
I’ve said multiple times if they put all the crews together on one project, it would probably be done, then they just all move to the next one. Instead, they make 100 teams of 3 guys and have them work on 250 projects at the same time.
…or maybe there’s an SCP that looks like an arrow board and a bunch of cones just slowly migrating around the city.
Fuck Flock.
But the cost of road repairs are orders of magnitude more expensive.
My small town entered a contract for 11 flock cameras, and it cost about 65 grand. We also repaved 10 small streets and it cost 8 million.
Honestly fuck roads too. We are way too car dependent.
Maybe look closer into each job, see where the money is going?
I’d also gladly pay for more maintained roads than a surveillance system. If everyone just did their job, we’d already be in a greater situation.
Cops getting caught stalking their exes on flock ststems, trying to track down a guy who picked up $30 he found on the ground? Cmon, let’s be real. There are serious issues, but it’s always low hanging fruit they go for rather than the jobs that pay the bills, like taxing million/billionaires. Thanks Reagan, you ass hole.
Fix tax loopholes, institute a wealth tax ( no billionaire got where they are without exploiting people), help people, invest in education, NOT the military, who couldn’t even find a way to help a ship they stuck at sea for almost a year. We have literal criminals running our government.
I’d rather raise al Capone from the dead and let him have a go, he at least fed the poor with soup kitchens. We’re arguing over whether a child should have free lunch like it’s the crime of the century. It’s unfuckingbelievable the petty shit we have to rule on.
NO child should ever go hungry, I don’t give a fuck if his or her parents murdered 100 people.
That sounds like corruption. A guy with a shovel doesn’t cost that much.
You don’t fix a road with a dude and a shovel. The horror you’re seeing there is exactly what happens to a road when you just keep shoveling gravel and cold mix when you need to do at least a mill and overlay, but probably a full-depth repair.
And when you start doing stuff like that now you’ve got to start planning around the underground utilities. Beneath the road you may have water, sewer, gas, electricity, telecoms and more. You’ve got manholes, handholes, storm sewer. And on top of that, half the owners on either side of the road don’t know where their property line is and they’ve installed irrigation systems in the ROW without a permit and the contractors hit water lines they don’t know about every hundred feet, stopping work and costing more money.
And all of this has to be coordinated with the various utility providers to try and make sure yout plans and theirs align. You don’t want to spend millions fixing a road only to have the gas company come in a week later cutting a bunch of trenches and holes they just fill back with a patch, causing the road to fall apart in 2 years instead of 20.
Like 400k kids go missing each year and flock has helped find exactly 0 of them. They can’t even be bothered to do some bullshit PR stuff to even pretend it’s for “our safety”.
You fell asleep in my car
I drove the whole time
I went to vote in the primaries recently and flipped off the flock cameras all along the way because it was the first time I’d passed them in a while. I was fully expecting to get a ticket for the double-bird and not having my hands on the wheel. Instead, I went for a walk about a week later to discover all the flock cameras have been removed. My town ended the contract!
They are considering other options, however… A rose by any other name still triggers allergies… So I’ll for sure be looking for when city halls are happening. I guess I’ll also be going around town talking to locals about it, same as I did when deflock.me first dropped.
As a Canadian, driving or biking on American roads is wild, it’s like you’re rolling a couple of years after an apocalyptic event.
As a Canadian I am very mad that they are getting installed here.
Why do we keep importing the worse American behaviour?
I mean, technically…
10 years if we’re being specific
Yes but some people think that the Flock cameras protect them!.. /s
I see that sentiment, with zero sarcasm, all over Nextdoor.
How the heck did local neighborhood social media become full of paranoid morons?
People, generally, are paranoid morons. Calmly processing the facts and assessing risk are the rare exception. Even people who are good at that kind of thing are first making an irrational decision, and then justifying it after the fact.
The solution isn’t to fact-check them about Flock having no impact on their safety. The solution is to fear-monger even harder about cameras seeing into their houses, and a private company selling their data to telemarketers.
Instead, we’re all under investigation by the authorities for pre-crime indefinitely.
Tell them this:
“If I put a mask, I can still just as equally steal, rape or kill you, no cameras or police actually protect you from that, even in Anarchy (from which we all come), there was decency, common sense and some order)”
They can track every single move, even with a mask on
Is that how they caught all the people tearing down the cameras ? Because they haven’t.
So they say, therefore sneak up behind one whilst doing a funny, but not identifying walk
But get license plates wrong
No.
is the top not the simplest incentive to get people to use public transit?
Public transit basically doesn’t exist in the US outside of metropolitan areas lol
yes, and that needs to change.
My job is 45 miles away from my home. Live on a farm work in a city. I like my job and I like my farm. Also, are busses and carpool vans immune to potholes?
Trains are immune to potholes.
Too bad there are like 10 trains total in America
they really aren’t, ok maybe I’m thinking of boulder induced potholes
TAKE THEM DOWN!!
