And for that, my respect for the United States remains strong (at least, my respect for the Spirit of America)

The US constitution was written to protect slavers and oligarchs from the masses, not to actually provide democracy. Less than 7% of the population was even legally allowed to vote at our founding, and without the senate and electoral college, the US might actually be a real, functional modern state instead of publicly funded security force for corporations, oligarchs, and whoever has blackmail material on the pedophile in chief. We need to rewrite the whole thing from scratch after the current regime is deposed to make sure nothing remotely like what’s happening now can ever happen again.

Yeah nah they want two houses. It’s the system they operate under that’s the issue.

Under a better functioning one, two houses provide screening of legislation. This has stopped bad legislation getting through in Australia a few times.

Ditching the electoral process and the electoral college for ranked choice and a Senate selection system similar to how some Westminster style governments run would be a big help.

A piece of paper is just a piece of paper. Lots of pretty ones out there.

The big problem in the US is now that if you fight for the constitution, you automatically fight against the government.

I was raised on a lot of fine ideals. Even though the scales have fallen from my eyes, I still like what America was supposed to be. I know there’s no America where there are no cats and the streets are paved with cheese, but I still think there should be one. So to speak.
