PJM Interconnection now requires new data centers over 50 MW to supply their own power or face first-priority grid curtailment starting June 2027.

In turn, data centers will just pollute the air with their natural gas and diesel generators. It’s a lose/lose proposition.

There’s only like three companies in the world that make gas turbines. They’re already operating at capacity.

While power grids do constantly grow, they don’t grow about 20% year over year. It simply isn’t possible to increase the power supply at the pace the AI companies are expecting in their data center plans. So they’re buying up all of these chips but there isn’t going to be electricity to power them.

The AI bubble is just completely disconnected from reality.

Good thing the EPA exists and hasn’t been gutted and disassemble over the last 50 years… Oh wait.

Let’s call methane and such what they are - fossil gas. The “natural” gas green-washing campaign has done enough harm as it is.

It’s natural gas as opposed to coal gas - if you heat coal in an anerobic environment, it is refined into a flammable liquid + gas. Fun little science demonstration

They used to use it for lights everywhere, and it left soot all over the walls. Silly putty was invented to clean it off of wallpapers, but then they added dye and it became silly

I don’t have a problem rebranding it as fossil gas, but the name natural wasn’t green washing. It did occur naturally, and it is a hell of a lot cleaner than what was used before

Point of order, you’re thinking of play doh, not silly putty.

Silly Putty I think was an attempt to make plastic that failed and they went “well it’s kind of fun to play with, we’ll sell it as a toy?”

              wikis the pedia

Rubber. It was an attempt to make synthetic rubber during WWII rationing. Found to be pretty useless but kind of a fun toy.
