I dislike the term “invented” in contexts like this. Surely it’s more accurate to say some Canadian guy popularized pineapple on pizza. I just really doubt that no one on earth ever put pineapple on a pizza before 1962.
Even the Wikipedia article goes on to say
In 1957, a “Hawaiian Pizza” containing pineapple, papaya, and chopped green pepper, but not ham or bacon, appeared in Portland, Oregon.[12][13]
