      I’d be more inclined to like the character if they’d left out the part where he murdered his wife because she got on his nerves

          It’s the major reason Kurt Russell’s wife doesn’t want him working on the film (where he ends up fighting Bruce Lee), though there are others. But I didn’t see it in the theater, so I’m not sure what I saw was only extended edition stuff. But the version I saw, somebody talks about rumors that he killed his wife, and that her death wasn’t really an accident. etc.; then a bit later there’s a flashback to him on a boat with his wife, and they’re both drunk, and she’s verbally tearing him apart. He’s sitting in a lounge chair with a beer in his hand, and she just won’t shut up. Then he looks at a speargun off to his side.

          Then they cut away with the implication that whatever happened to her, she earned it.
