U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an order directing the interior secretary to rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America” as Canada trade war persists.
Trump cannot force Canada to follow his preferred naming convention, however.
The move is reminiscent of his move last year to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”
So if the US can just randomly rename stuff that doesn’t belong to them, Canada can too. I want to see them rename the entire United States to “Trump is a Pedophile”. That’ll look great on Google maps!
I’d also like to unilaterally rename Ontario, California (ie: Ontario, CA) for creating unnecessary confusion.
Maybe they’ll choose to rename it themselves? Like, maybe Manitoba, CA? That’s got a nice ring to it!
The US has a long history of changing the names of things because “fuck you”, Mt McKinley is actually Denali for instance.
Obama reverted it’s name to Denali, but of course Trump undid that.
Ultimately I think the solution is to call the mountain itself Denali (because of course that’s its name), and if you have to placate all the idiots in Ohio, rename the national park (because the park is a federally administered thing) to “McKinley.”
This is what I came here to say or updoot if already said. Pleeeeeease make it happen. I would absolutely love if the rest of the world just started renaming shit in and around the US.
