The movie in question must be from 80’s. The story revolves around dog fighting rings. There is a young girl who has a doberman that is a put to fight and reveals itself as champion but the girl doesn’t want him to fight and eventually die. The movie ends with the girl rescuing the dog.
People know what they know by taking other people’s knowledge. It’s been that way for millenia - standing on the shoulders of giants and all that…
But it’s over.
Here’s the thing almost nobody realizes: AI is that knowledge. It’s people’s knowledge, that people have posted on the internet, that Big Tech stole and repackaged into semi-clever digests of human knowledge called LLMs.
Technically, you can ask AI something and it will barf out somebody’s knowledge that was taken from them without their consent.
But we’ve lost the human contact and the human process of knowledge transmission. It also debases the knowledge you’ve received from AI: when no effort is needed to learn anything, nothing you learn has any value.
Yet the speed and ease at which you can get answers from the goddamn machine is intoxicating.
Asking other humans is a losing proposition. I totally get why you asked other people, but one day soon you’ll give up on that, because it’s just plain easier and faster to ask the machines.
And it’s really sad, it’s sterile, it’s inhuman and - most importantly - it doesn’t add anything of value to the pool of human knowledge anymore: the things you learn from the machine are a from a finite set of knowledge. The machines never add anything to the pool. So in the end, the machine basically arrest human development.
But the machines are intoxicating and you can’t stop them. Welcome to the terrible world built for us by the techno-fascists. You can try to resist it if you want, I’ve given up.
Don’t. By the reasons you stated yourself. Say no. And if the option is to remain ignorant or unknowleadgeable then so be it, for the reasons you so eloquently put forward.
