I hate the USPS.
Everytime I criticize them, I get dog piled with downvotes.
Nevertheless, I’ll say it again: I hate the USPS. They’ve devolved primarily into a physical spam delivery system, that offers your information freely up to data brokers, and freshly doxes you every time you move residences.
it has outlived its usefulness. should be able to compete with other package services on last mile delivery. they drive to every house, every day, already. spam must pay better. there are forwarding services that collect your mail, shred spam and email pictures of not-spam mail. for a (small so far) fee. 📫

No I get it there’s many benefits to being on the internet despite the spam, just like the USPS.
Like the fact that they are required to deliver to any address in the country, whereas FedEx, UPS, etc, will decide to just cut rural routes if they aren’t profitable. Hard for the elderly to get mail order medicines if they can’t get mail.
Hell you could even spend some time looking into the laws surrounding spam and use of the USPS to that end to understand why it’s that way, and that like most things in our nation it’s driven by lawmakers decisions not USPS policy someone just made up.
Spoiler alert, you don’t have a government that gives any shits about privacy because business wants it that way. Because buying and selling your data is the backbone of commerce today. It’s why it’s so important to be considerate of who you give your data to. Just like I wouldn’t recommend testing the waters in scientology, once they have your details they won’t leave your alone.
So if you want to bitch about the state of things put the blame where it belongs like so many of our problems, business and their owned legislators.

does the USPS straight up sell your name with the address or is it the same as here where it’s just addressed to no human and they are still required to deliver it?
the system hasn’t really devolved honestly… it’s just, not used anymore so the only major thing that’s left is the junk from companies that no one wants or ever needed.
They get funding from ad companies to send mailers through the direct mailer system. They can “map ZIP Code(s)™ and neighborhoods—even filter by age, income, or household size1 using U.S. Census data” for advertisers even…
