SRE roles seem to have exploded onto the scene, with frontend performance tossed into the description as if they were free breadsticks. Any idea why the shift of performance focus?

SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) roles have been exploding for several months now. These roles focus mostly on the server-side of things, but they seem to also be absorbing frontend performance roles (i.e. Core Web Vitals) as if that field were a “sidenote”…

    Citation needed - it certainly feels like frontend performance was rarely seen as important in the past 10+ years.

    So, again, anyone have a good ideas or thoughts as to why this field has erupted, and seemingly absorbed frontend?

    Probably for the same reason that “programmers” got separated into “backend/frontend”, so that it feels like you have more specialists, instead of asking them to do a good job in the first place.
