The segment’s formulation of the process as ten points (which I’ll reproduce here from Wikipedia) is original but apparently does nicely sum up the rules:
Demand satisfaction. No dueling is necessary if they apologize.
If they do not apologize, choose someone to act as your second, your lieutenant.
Have your seconds negotiate a resolution, or the location and date for the duel.
If a duel is settled, choose your weapons and have a doctor present.

I believe Hamilton had a 10 step approach to duels to the death. There were about 9 stages of varying surrenders and draws leading up to the death.
