Social media companies would be required to give users a choice to turn off their algorithm through pop-up messages, under draft laws to be unveiled by the government later this week.
If there’s gonna be legislation, it should work the other way round. People should have to opt-in to anything other than chronological sorting, and they should have to do it every time they open the app or pull up the webpage.
Hopefully they let you set it as the default. For example, Instagram technically has a chronological feed but you need to go through some menus first
And also it doesn’t stick. If you close the app it resets.
