Rhythm games are for people who figured out how to use video games to trick themselves into fitness, hating them is risk factor for being slow and weak and having bad rhythm
My cousin works on similar stuff, and she says that knowing the connectome (which neurons connect to others) is practically useless for understanding how the brain actually functions. You don’t know how strongly the neuron activations are correlated, and you can’t tell a regular neuron from an inhibitory one. In other words, you can train it to do anything you want, and it will have nothing to do with how the brain actually thinks. She told me about this study where some scientists trained the fly’s connectome to act like a fly, and then another paper trained it to play a game (it might’ve been this one).
I know there’s likely no actual consciousness there, but this is next level I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.
I Have No Fruit And I Must Fly
I have no saber and I must beat.
Meat Saber
I mean, you can’t really KNOW that
Yeah how ARE we gonna know. That’s a question that bothers me.
No matter what someone believes, the scientific consensus seems to align with it being all the brain, yet they have no ethical qualms about simulating them as in depth as possible and dropping them in fake hell.
I mean, I don’t believe it’s just the brain but I think it’s pretty fucking unethical for people to do this shit thinking it is all the brain. I also think we crossed some MAJOR boundaries when they did the brain box shit with organic human neurons… in boxes…
Honestly we should have stopped fucking with neural nets a long time ago. Capitalism just wants v2 plastic slaves.
Capitalism just wants v2 plastic slaves.
You mean humans?
Capitalism operates on supply vs demand, if there’s no demand capitalism won’t bother with supply
Give it a mouth, duh.
Don’t, then an engineer will fuck it
As an engineer, I refuse to answer this
Or pour whiskey into it.
I am very bad at these kinds of games, so I want to believe this.
Meanwhile, I’m going to go hover around this light bulb until someone turns it off or I die from dehydration.
Flies and other insects circling bulbs is actually a pretty terrible result of their extensive history of evolution without artificial light. They feel like they’re flying straight as far as vision is concerned, while the rest of their body is describing circles.
It’s probably quite close to how an utterly wasted person stumbling around trying to stand up straight feels, getting a bunch of conflicting info from their senses. It’s probably a pretty shitty experience that does often result in death (especially if they’re circling a bug zapper), and most humans just laugh at it.
Empathetic species my ass.

This seems to be incredibly recent research:

Instead, Fabian argues that new camera technology, finally up to the task of capturing fast-flying insects at night, points to a somewhat novel explanation: what’s known as the dorsal light response, in which insects orient themselves so their upper sides face the brightest area around them.

Even the researcher says himself they still can’t say 100% for sure

I’ve never seen anyone laugh at insects flocking around a light let alone “most humans”, who are you friends with ?
Yup, nature is absolutely brutal, and humans in particular are highly callous and destructive at large scales. Things like empathy only exist at smaller scales.
Someone i knew who was really academically excellent without any effort, he loves/loved rhythm games. I think people are drawn to games which fill a void of what they can get out of their own life, so someone who doesn’t play a musical instrument or sports for instance can get that from rhythm games.
I’ve also known rather intelligent people who love rhythm games. Something tells me anon is doing a little projection here.
John Carmack also loves beat saber IIRC and I hear he’s pretty smart
Yea but can he play an instrument?
… also I still want to try beat saber… it seems like fun cardio.
When I see beat saber gameplay it looks like something I’d love and wouod be really engaging to play while also not over-the-top
It’s playing Doom as well:
