The DMV here has improved a lot. Is it great? No, but it’s also not horrible.

For many US motorists, updating their license at the DMV can be a herculean feat with lengthy wait times.
I updated my license last year, because I had to switch to a RealID license. I made an appointment online and was in and out of the DMV facility near me inside 40 minutes from start to finish. And the whole process was very efficient. And all other times when renewing my license can be done online in about 10 minutes. So if license updates are that horrible in other states then the CA DMV is waaaaaay ahead of the curve, and nowhere near the biggest problem we face. Again, this is just a shallow populist ploy. But I wouldn’t expect anything else from a clown like Steve Hilton.
Yeah exactly, this guy must be stuck in a time warp. The DMV USED to take hours of waiting and was an awful experience. Now I book an appointment online, show up, do very little waiting, get my business done and get out.
Appointments are definitely the way to go. The walk-in prices is still pretty brutal. But there’s an easy fix for that: make an appointment.
I wish the passport office was as streamlined as our DMV. Getting a brand new passport is still horrible. It requires an in-office visit, and getting an appointment for those is brutal, and even once you do go to your appointment there’s still hours of waiting. At least that was my experience when I got passports for my kid. Conversely, getting a brand new UL passport is really efficient and mostly an online process.
