Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi has offered an explanation for why the physical disc version of the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox requires a download to play.
“First and foremost, personally, I’m very happy that we are able to release a physical disc version of FFVII Revelation considering how the entire gaming market, or the landscape, is veering towards the disc-less direction,”
Except… this might as well not be a physical disc version. It’s like, the worst of both worlds.
Fair point, that is an upside. But it still feels like it has all the other downsides of both formats. They can take it away whenever they want because the full game isn’t on disc, and it required all the plastic and shipping to move a physical product without all of the product actually on disc anyway.

It might let you download less than would be the case if it were purely digital.
There are people out there who don’t have the most amazing Internet connections.
I remember having to download games bit by bit (heh) over 2 weeks
