My group pretty much acted like nothing beyond 3.5 existed. We tried a 5.0 campaign… but, the loss of complexity, the lack of variety and choice in classes and prestige classes, and dozens of other issues we had kept us from having much fun with it.
Touch AC. various attack bonuses. Crit confirmation. Cloaks of Resistance handed out like candy at specific levels just to make the math work. Its okay haha
The ruleset, I played Rise of the Rune Lords and it (the rules) was alright. I just remember I had to bounce between a bunch of different defenses and attack bonuses and everything was a build etc and the math only worked if you got certain items and certain levels. Just was not for me. Oh and my character was frightened nearly every fight and I could hardly do shit except turtle mode and go full defense as my action. And I never confirmed my crits.
Killing monsters as the main source of xp was a 3E-ism, and honestly I dont like that it really is just a monster hunting fight game that used dungeon delving mechanics
eh, the game incentivizes it. Why sneak through a dungeon for the xp, because monsters hardly counted and dying was so possible, when you can just minmax, have crazy builds etc and bang pots outside of the dungeon and kill the monsters as they funnel out and get all the same xp?
I enjoyed my time with pf1e, definitely a campaign I remember, but I would be just as okay with 5e tbh in pf1e adventure paths
My old boss at WotC said his game group played Pathfinder because it was better than D&D.
That’s because it is 3.5 DnD, and 3.5 dnd was the best DnD.
phanlix@lemmy.zip Well, PF1 is. I’m not sure why so many people refuse to acknowledge PF2. It’s been out for like 7 years now.
It’s like refusing to acknowledge anything past AD&D exists.
Well I guess I’ll be a stick in the mud then.

If PF2 is anything like DnD 5.0, hard pass.

Are we talking the PC game or just the ruleset in general?

That’s a DM issue if they’re relying on monsters for XP regardless of gameset.
