Thought I moved from R*ddit to see more constructive comments (among many other things), turns out nobody reads past the headline here either.

Since 1967, teachers could only physically intervene with students if their safety or that of others was at risk. Starting in August 2027, they will be allowed to ‘hold a student, keep them in place, or take them to another room’ if the student disrupts the class.

So 50% closer to the 1990s then?

      Seems we’re talking about …detention. That’s it.

      Unclutch those pearls, ladies.

Read the fucking article fa chrise sakes. Only thing it’s allowing teachers to do is to restrain a kid if the kid is harming others

For some definition of harming others.

        The subtitle says:

if the student disrupts the class

And, in the body of the article:

The proposed law would allow teachers to physically intervene if a student harasses or insults others, or “significantly” disrupts lessons.

        Did you?

The current legislation only allows teachers to use force if a student poses a danger to themselves, others, or school property. The teachers’ union (Danmarks Lærerforening) has long called for greater flexibility, arguing that it is increasingly difficult to manage students who disturb class and refuse to keep quiet or leave when asked.

They already have the ability to restrain a child who is a danger to others, this is for children who are simply disrupting a class.

Being forced to sit is physical but hardly violence.

If you’ve been in a position of authority with kids somewhat recently, you know that the old “because I say so” just plain doesn’t work anymore. If a kid starts playing Roblox videos on his phone during class I don’t see the harm in yanking it out of their hands or forcing them to another room. What solution would you take that doesn’t involve any physical contact at all?

Striking kids is a different thing entirely.

Schools usually have security officers who can come in and forcibly remove a disruptive student.

I usually go by the rule of No Touching. But if one student is touching another in a disruptive albeit not violent way (e.g. touching someone’s hair without their permission) i think that is what I’d want the rule to enable: the teacher physically getting between them.

Having a discussion with them and their parents? Working it out like a reasonable human not some boomer who thinks force is the answer. The issue does not need to be address right there and then if it is annoying but not harmful, all that does is teach children that physical force is an appropriate response to minor annoyances.

I had rough teachers growing up and I had good teachers growing up, I know which one I want for my children.

I used to hyper focus on world war 2 history. Scared the ever living shit out of me and the only way I could calm down was to tell myself it’s in the past, we lost so many lives and destroyed so many others just so those that come after, won’t have to suffer this again. And now this. How do I calm down now fam?
