I had difficulty understanding this meme, as I am not a programmer (wife is). Only after I read your reply to maria, was I able to piece the framing of this.

But I see the other side of this frame:
both websites are capitalism at their peaks.
Precisely because they don’t want to compensate us correctly, is the reason why “2 🏳️‍⚧️women” were not hired to do either tasks.
Why fairly compensate, when labor can be stolen⸮

    inb4

for the folks that don’t know, I am black anarchist, we should all earn our means of production. VCs like Bluesky Social PBC & Microsoft can commission us.
But they are in the interest of theft. So,

Not sure if you should use the word “goons” next to the orange website in that way.

On the other hand, maybe you should.

This is about open source, the two trans women were never going to be paid. Instead of a trans woman, a vibe coder came up with it, whatever the project is.

Calling raging against the dying of the fucking light “the anger phase” is defeatist pro-AI propaganda. You assume there will be an acceptance phase. I started at acceptance with google deep dream. Now, I fucking fight. And anyone who reaches your “acceptance” phase has become a meat proxy to the stochastic parrot.

        Never slop.

AI is evil; nothing but a marketing buzzword created by a delusional cult of oligarchs. It holds back a lot of the potential of machine learning while providing cover for the layoffs they already wanted and buying out computational power for the next decade. People frankly aren’t angry enough.

wait why does it hold back machine learning? I feel that recent transcription models, genome approximators and classifiers are quite something and large-scale experiments on new problem spaces are green-lit much quicker than before. i personally feel that because the space is so big, there are many more attempts made to use ML systems using those same modern architectures to help in new domains or optimize existing ones.

I am very irritated by the focus on language models and image / video /audio predictors and feel that too many resources are being used exclusively for those. The overall impact is obviously trampling down any of the good stuff.

      well,

      …

      yea…

i guess being angry at ai is easier than admitting to myself i’ve wasted 4 years of my life (and counting) studying for a job that won’t exist by the time i’m out of uni…

and, it feels like recently ai just turned everything i cared about to shit. art, writing, programming, gaming, computers in general really

i should care about more things

No your anger is entirely justified. Just misplaced.

Your directing anger towards an inanimate thing. Ai doesn’t care nor is it harming anything you listed.

Human shit stains using ai as a blunt instrument is harming everything you listed.

Being upset at AI is like being upset at guns for massshootings.

Put a gun in the ground and guess what it’s going to do. Fuck all, it’s going to sit there cause it’s a piece of shit metal that can’t do shit.

Direct your anger to the actual sub human shit stains ruining everything for the rest of us. It gives you an actual outlet, an actual real and tangible thing that you can rationalize.

You can DO something about people misusing a tool. You can’t do shit about the tool.

I feel the same… 6 years spent on 2 degrees to get into game development, and as soon as I graduate from the last one, the aftermath of COVID and then AI burn the industry and cause it to be nearly impossible to get into for the average junior and layoffs are increasing each year… Then people say we gotta just “deal with it and stop complaining” 🙄

        I’m tired of it all

AI is a new excuse to not hire junior developers. The financial crisis was another excuse. The dot com bubble was another excuse. Junior developers are needed, but hiring authorities hate to employ them.

I have yet to see this “bubble” of anti-AI sentiment. Its impossible to be completely locked in a anti-AI feedback loop when the entire world around you is pushing it constantly.
Yes, people can get stuck surrounded by ideas and misconceptions in a way that creates a harmful feedback loop, for sure. Not once, however, have I heard an argument against the growing anti-AI movement that wasn’t just meekly defending the slop machine with objectively invalid points.

None of us are immune to propaganda and misinformation, but most times I’ve seen activists (or progressives in general) be told to “get out of their bubble” or “see the other side”, it’s nothing more than a convenient way to wrongly paint those arguments as short-sighted or ill-informed.

There is so much to hate about AI, but programming has not been about typing out code letter by letter for a long time, probably before you and I even started doing it. IDEs have had autocompletion and “generating” whole classes / methods / whatever structure for a couple of years now (although deterministically). Low code / no code has been growing in popularity before LLMs. Generative AI is out of pandoras box, there is no way it will vanish out of software development one day. But we’re also not yet at a point where any sales asshole is able or even willing to create effective and resilient systems as we have seen a couple of times in the recent past. Maybe we will never get there.

Concepts and architecture matter more than code, they always have. Focus on the bigger picture and learn to use LLMs as a tool, in ways and situations / workflows where it unarguably works (even if you doubt it), but refuse to become a meat proxy that became unable to answer a slack message without AI. Tech is not the problem, it’s a handful of people ruining it for everyone while getting stupid crazy rich by fucking up our planet and the people living on it. Don’t let it take away your passion for computers, or else they have won.

Being upset at AI is just fucking stupid. With out these dipshit corpos the tech would be entirely mundane.

It’s just the snake oil problem. The product isn’t a problem it’s the people hocking it.

Getting mad at the product is exactly what they want cause it means they can do anything and get away with it.

Art is being hit quite hard to be honest… It’ll still exist as a hobby, but as a career it’s getting harder to get into as more and more companies are replacing it with AI.

Look at Nvidia constantly trying to improve their AI to make game-ready 3D assets. It’s not totally there yet, but they’re determined to do so… So not even 3D art is safe. And that just means in the future everyone’s going to be paying same full price for games that visually and coding-wise has been made with AI. Same price, significantly less quality

I just pray they don’t manage to get it 100% replacement, but I’m also not holding my breath anymore…

It does comfort me that there is a lot of backlash to AI art in games for now… I just hope it doesn’t become normalised and more accepted over the years.

hwwwwww yes I also hope that the backlash keeps studios from switching to the stuff, that would suck big time. I love looking at a normal map and go “wow, someone made this AND the reflection map” and sit there in awe… sounds like im joking but I’m not.

so far the biggest backlash I’ve seen was with Professor Layton, but that may be my bubble speaking.

100% replacement would require a human-like understanding of “what’s good”, and thats muuuuch harder to optimize for than math and code so I’m bullish on the human creativity and ideas front for now buuuuut u unfortunately never know.

Art should be fine, but I fear that passion will no longer be the same in everything related to code. It’s harder to convince people that code is also a way to express yourself, that it should not be touched by AI, so I fear that what I liked will never be the same
