A more apt comparison would be:
Tractors put people out of work so we shouldn’t buy produce from farms that use them, BUT we also don’t want to pay extra despite the fact that these farms require more labour to produce the same amount of crops.
You’re always free to start your own tractorless farm and you’ll see how many people are willing to pay extra just for not having a tractor involved versus how many people would prefer things to be cheaper.
Maybe not a perfect analogy because food is essential, but it kinda shows how annoying the people that demand their completely free software is handwritten seem.
Go donate a couple grand a month to a project you truly care about and maybe the dev can afford to work on it full time instead of using LLMs to build the things they want to exist.
I should also mention that whatever device you’re posting from, likely benefits from slave labour somewhere in the supply chain, as do many other goods in our lives. Living in the west, most of us benefit from some form of slavery or another happening somewhere we don’t care about because it’s out of sight. It’s quite unfortunate. Comparing LLM usage to actual fucking slavery is WILD to me though.
