Despite my best efforts, I can’t stop coming across horrific stories and images from Palestine. I won’t repeat them here because you all know. At the same time I’ve heard so much inspirational stuff about how the USSR, despite being in a constant fight for their existence, still managed to help the global South in various ways, like aiding Cuba for example.

I understand that China is trying not to repeat the mistakes of the USSR by taking a less principled, more pragmatic approach, but if socialism means anything, surely it at the very least means opposing genocide? I just don’t see why a country as powerful as China wouldn’t just draw the line here.

Sorry if this is more of a rant than anything else, I’m just sick of seeing this shit, and literally the only entity on the planet that isn’t run by demons and is powerful enough to help, refuses to do so. Even just sanctions would make a massive difference.

    Regardless of how we may feel about it, military non-interventionism in the affairs of other countries (which has characterized China’s foreign policy for most of its history), and continuing friendly economic relations regardless of the politics of the target country, is a pragmatic, long term strategy with a lot of benefits. Its easy to see why a socialist country, learning from the failures of the USSR in the 20th century, would avoid it.

    By prioritizing stable international trade relationships over ideology:

    • You avoid dedicating resources into wasteful wars and other potential foreign policy traps (USSR in Afghanistan, US in Vietnam, etc). This prevents further escalation into regional and world-sized conflicts.
    • You prevent the possibility of war with the target nation, by making it undesirable because economic interdependence is too great. The US is unable to start a war with China for this reason.
    • You avoid potential conflicts, not only with the target nation, but also with unaligned or more impartial nations. Other nations gain trust that you will not interfere in their affairs over a long period of time. They gain trust in that stability.

    The PRC still does give very much give aid and economic assistance to all the countries targeted by US imperialism. It just refuses military assistance. The non-interventionism is military only.

    Also, the CPC believes that just like their party did the difficult work of decades of organizing, development, fighting multiple civil wars and foreign invasion, with little to no help from the outside, every other country must go through that struggle, and there is no “skipping over it”. If the material reality dictates that a communist movement within a country isn’t strong or doesn’t have enough support to win, then there is no avoiding that reality. Despite all my desire that the country that I live in (the USA) will go communist, material reality dictates that it will likely be one of the very last countries to do so.

      I’d say they DO give military aid but only do so in very specific ways and deniable ways. Chinese MANPADS are the reason the US can’t fly over Iran. They’re the reason Israeli fighters have to think twice about it. And the intel support cannot be overstated. Iran can strike targets so accurately because China sold them a satellite to see these things. And it shares info with them on US and Israeli movements. China has no interest in coming in to get draw into a multi year long quagmire in the middle east, but it will gladly give local powers the support they need to keep fighting, and win.
