“Off-the-charts bonkers, a movie that defies categorization,” just some of what critics are saying of a film filled with plot twists, unexpected turns, no spoilers here, and questions of truth and perception.

Hol’up. That’s high praise that tends to have me raising an eyebrow in cautiously hopeful skepticism. I’ll still not be giving my too-few Democracy™ bucks to the cinema industry, but maybe I’ll find it floating in open water somewhere. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Well, I will always support open sea adventures. I know what I am saying sounds hyperbolic, but I don’t want to say why I feel this way because it necessitates spoilers. The most I will say is I found myself thinking of Citizen Kane and the films of Kubrick.

Feel free to come back at me once you have seen it, but the situation of Holmes, Thernaos and the filming are so specifically unique that it’s a singular 1-of-1 moment in time. I wouldn’t say Nathan Fielder is the greatest director, far from it, but he was the right person, at the right time in the right place. I don’t think anything quite like this has happened or can happen again.

Don’t get me wrong, I am curious. The way things are these days though, anything can be propaganda and therefore the bullshit meter’s doing an exorbitant amount of heavy lifting at every turn. 💁🏼‍♂️

Ooooh. A hefty amount of skepticism is the best companion for this. I’m excited for you and your bullshit meter. :)

My only recommendation is if you download, treat it like a movie theater experience. Turn off phone/tablet/whatever and give it your full attention.
