Under Mao, around 2.5% of China died in famines that could be partially attributed to aggressive industrialization. Arguing that Mao was worse for mismanaging industrialization than someone that industrialized mass murder to deliberately kill “undesirables” is horrendous historiography. It isn’t a coincidence that Mao is near universally loved in China while Hitler is near universally hated in Europe.
