i guess that guinea pigs were called that way because they might have been used as meat-producers in the past. i.e. city-dwellers who didn’t have enough space for a full-sized pig would hold a guinea pig in their apartment to feed and slaughter it once a year to have some source of meat. (remember that meat was scarce and expensive in earlier times).
Every time I see this image reposted a good 60% of the comments end up making a bunny pun. Have people just never seen a Guinea pig before?

Look buddy I know what a bunny rabbit looks like alright. Maybe it’s the people in Guinea who got no idea what a pig is?
