I’m not arguing for doing nothing, though. My position is that we need an entirely new system, a socialist system, and that to get there we need an organized, mass socialist party, mass class consciousness among the working class, and a crisis within the capitalist system that leaves the capitalist class weak. The first two are directly controllable by those of us that work to build up the socialist party and educate our fellow workers, and the last is made inevitable by capitalism itself. I’m arguing that we need to educate, agitate, and organize.
Nope I fully agree with you. I’m just against people who refuse to vote saying it will make no difference and then pushing us further towards fascism. Voting really takes no effort. Doing the things you are talking about does, and is super hard for the average person (especially since in america if youre part of one of those groups or go on a march and your company finds out you can be fired very quickly ). I wouldnt have the slightest idea were to start . Facebook groups are all we have here.
I understand your fears of fascism, but fascism cannot be stopped at the ballot box. Fascism is the result of the capitalist class removing any and all civic protections. It’s an extra-legal action, one that does not happen at the ballot box but instead through the capitalist class itself nakedly taking away civil liberties. Voting for Democrats or Republicans does not speed up nor slow down fascism.
As for where to start, both Freedom Road Socialist Organization and the Party for Socialism and Liberation have two tiers of membership, general membership which is low commitment in time and money, and cadre membership, which requires significant time and money. See which is more active near you (almost certainly PSL, but varies), and consider joining the general membership!
Thats understandable. It still means doing nothing is a stupid choice is all I’m saying.
