There is a layer of sand under the slabs that is easy for them to excavate tunnels from, with the entrance between two slabs. It’s the white house. It gets sprayed for insects anyway.

They should spray a lot more, plenty of bugs there.
You need to get the 12 gauge spray for the kind of bug you’re thinking of.
It’s ugly and trashy
Because it’s a garden?
That being said pre Wilson, it actually had garden beds where the lawn was.
Also ask yourself in the context of a garden, what is better vegetation than grass to walk on?
