I played yugioh until about 2005, stopped because all my friends stopped. I got the itch to play again in like 2021 and a newer buddy tried my show me how to play and walked me through a few games. All I could think to say was WTF, it was actually insane to comboa that seemed standard

Yeah, my brother and I used to play. Then we got new starter decks and I happened to pick a zombie deck, which we later learned was more-or-less the current meta in proper ranked matches. And the combos it allowed were just insane. If I gave any damn at all, I could steamroll him with no effort.

I do imagine that’s only gotten wilder over time, as more cards allow for more optimal combinations.

Yeah I think that’s part of it too. I mostly played with whatever cards I got in packs or traded for, and no one really had a meta deck. So switching from that to a specifically built deck was pretty big, even back in the day. I imagine that’s worse now lol

played one game with some in-laws who tried to introduce me. thought it would be hard, once I understood the game I kicked their arse. never played again, I’m opposed to any game where the whole game is just microtransactions.

I’m defense of the game, doubt I’m good at it, I just think my in-laws are stupid.
