Nice post. My Jura coffee maker has a diagnostic interface and I wonder if it’s a similar situation to gain access. In this case it looks like a three pin socket. Serial connection perhaps? The machine is in working order but service costs are high and it would be an advantage to get fault codes and usage stats when the inevitable happens.

Could be UART, UART technically only needs TX, RX and a ground pin. The 3.3/5v pin is optional
