My friend is kind of set on Ubuntu studio for music produciton. Should I talk them out of it ? I dont care for Ubuntu because of their practices.

Naah, let them. People use Ubuntu Studio with success to run their audio software. What is more important: you disliking Canonical, or them being able to run the software they need?
Right, still a hell of a lot better than windoze
That same software can equally well run on anything else, but sure - it’s not like I care what distro the guy runs either. Maybe snaps and apt will piss him off, maybe he’ll be perfectly happy, but that’s for him to figure out either way.
People use 100 different distros with success as well.
It’s a false dichotomy. Use something else and everyone is happy, has a better experience, and no one contributes to the enshittification of the Linux ecosystem.
