I was on Reddit for years. Had multiple throwaway accounts (which was the norm) and about half a mil karma on my main one. It meant nothing, I just sort of accumulated it over 10 years. Then I got banned from a sub, got a site wide ban after using my throwaways (ban evasion) and that was it. I tried to get back in using a VPN and Brave, which worked for a bit, but with zero karma I couldn’t even post in the subs I once liked. Pretty soon my account was banned for the same reason. I was a bit pissed at the time, but honestly the mods were so awful that I think it was for the best - and Limmy just feels nicer.

on reddit the only thing that matters is that you have enough karma to make it past the subreddit filters. your account also needs to be a certain number of days old. total bullshit IMO. after all, everyone has to start somewhere, so it’s dumb to assume that every new account is a bot
