I think everyone who has ever played online games knows that phenomenon. I played a whole lot of Team Fortress 2 back in the days. It was pretty chill most of the time, and it’s one of those games where i used my mic quite a bit, and so did other people. I met a guy playing tf2 15 years ago and we still talk like 5 times a week and play video games together.

Anyway, whenever there were maybe 2 guys in voice chat for hours, when a woman joined, suddenly everyone had a microphone. And all of the sudden, everyone felt the urge to play support to follow her around. Everyone suddenly became a my little pony expert, or whatever she might be into. And when she left, it was back to crickets. I always found that so damn off putting and weird.

        it’s not any different irl.

men want to get laid and are hard wired to want to impress women. even if she isn’t available they will still try. even when a married woman w/ a guy walks in all the sudden every dude sits up straighter.

sex is a hell of a drug.

Ah, my frame of reference is more MMO, so discords and stuff tend to be at least 30% women if not more. MMO guys can sometimes be creeps but it’s never the whole channel, usually there’s already a woman in the group when you join.

Although I’m maybe a little biased, the discord I run calls out bullshit real fast, and we’ve been at it for years, lol. Still, I’m sure there are some really cringe groups out there. That, and there is a type of harassment that’s mostly through direct messages. That trend isn’t too strong lately, I think, because of how many guys play female characters it’s a game of minesweeper most lonely guys aren’t willing to play.
